SUMMARY:Dr. Christina Eisenbarth: HydroSKIN: Climate-Adapted Architecture of Tomorrow
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Christina Eisenbarth has developed a revolutionary facade technology as part of her doctoral research: HydroSKIN. These lightweight facade elements, composed of textile layers and membranes, absorb rainwater and provide cooling on hot days through evaporation. HydroSKIN enhances the resilience of our buildings and cities against extreme weather, including heavy rainfall and heat. The project has received multiple national and international accolades, including the prestigious "German Design Award 2024" and, previously, the "Blue Compass" from the Federal Environment Agency and the Federal Ministry for the Environment.\nDr. Eisenbarth is a research associate at the Institute of Lightweight Structures and Structural Design (ILEK) at the University of Stuttgart and a visiting researcher at the University of Sydney. She also leads the transfer and startup initiative "HydroSKIN," aimed at integrating this innovative technology into practical construction applications.\nAttendance is free of charge\nAbout the SeriesYoung researchers from the University of Stuttgart present their research projects during lunch breaks in a relaxed, humorous, and easily understandable way for non-experts. Topics range from innovative façade technology for climate-resilient buildings, through exploring the quest for the perfect lullaby, to providing insights into the science of social transformation. After the presentations, there will be time for questions, discussion, and snacks. Feel free to bring your own sandwich.
