Prof. Dr. Torsten Hoffmann has been Professor of Modern German Literature at the University of Stuttgart since October 2018 and Executive Director of the IZKT since May 2026.

The literary scholar studied German and Social Studies at Georg-August University in Göttingen, where he earned his doctorate in 2004 and completed his habilitation in 2013. After holding positions as a research assistant in Göttingen and a junior professorship at Goethe University Frankfurt, he accepted a position in Stuttgart in 2018.

Hoffmann has an extensive international network and has served as a visiting scholar at Sorbonne-Paris IV, the University of Toronto, and Keio University in Tokyo, as well as at universities in Poland, Estonia, Ukraine, Norway, China, and the United States. Since 2020, he has headed the DAAD-funded German Studies Institute Partnership between Stuttgart and Beihang University in Beijing. In addition, he has been actively involved for many years in the International Rilke Society, of which he has been president since 2021.
